Ultrafine Particles Emitted through Routine Operation of a Hairdryer

چکیده

Particulate matter is a large concern for human health. Fine and ultrafine particulate has been shown to negatively impact health; example, it causes cardiopulmonary diseases. Current regulation targets the size of particles, but composition also impacts toxicity. Indoor sources air pollution pose unique challenges health due potential exposure high concentrations in confined spaces. In this work, six hairdryers were each operated within plexiglass chamber, their emissions analyzed with transmission electron microscopy energy-dispersive spectroscopy. All found emit iron, carbon, copper. addition, from two primarily contained silver nanoparticles range (<100 nm). The particle emission rates that did not contain measured be lower than by gas stoves electric burners. Based on size, these particles can either remain lung or enter bloodstream after inhalation potentially cause long-term effects.

Definition, Measurement and Filtration of Ultrafine Solid Particles Emitted by Diesel Engines

There is increasing concern about health effects of particulate matter, PM, emitted from Diesel engines [1, 2, 3, 4]. PM is suspected of causing detrimental acute and chronic damage to the pulmonary and the cardiovascular system. Based on scientific proof, clean air legislation of many countries [5] therefore classifies Diesel soot as carcinogenic. Hence, it is mandatory to deploy the best avai...

Measurement of Ultrafine Particles and Other Air Pollutants Emitted by Cooking Activities

Cooking emissions show a strong dependence on cooking styles and parameters. Measurements of the average ultrafine particle (UFP) concentration, PM(2.5) and black carbon concentrations emitted by cooking activities ranged from 1.34 x 10(4) to 6.04 x 10(5) particles/cm(3), 10.0 to 230.9 microg/m(3) and 0.1 to 0.8 microg/m(3), respectively. Lower UFP concentrations were observed during boiling, w...

Ultrafine particles emitted by flame and electric arc guns for thermal spraying of metals.

The ultrafine aerosol emitted by thermal spraying of metals using flame and electric arc processes has been characterized in terms of particle size distribution and emission rates based on both particle number and mass. Thermal spraying of Zn, Zn/Al, and Al was studied. Measurements taken using an electrical low pressure impactor and a condensation nucleus counter reveal an aerosol made up of v...

Physical Characteristics of Ultrafine Particles Emitted from Different Gas Cooking Methods

Gas cooking is a significant source of airborne particles indoors. In order to assess health risk due to exposure from indoor particulate air pollution and to identify effective control strategies, data on size-differentiated aerosol particles released from different cooking methods are critically needed. In this study, controlled experiments were carried out in a domestic kitchen using a scann...

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Distribution in Fine and Ultrafine Particles Emitted from Diesel Engines

This paper presents the results of PAH determination adsorbed on fine and ultrafine particles emitted to the air from diesel exhaust, with a special emphasis on sample preparation procedure prior to HPLC-FL analysis. Samples were taken with a personal environmental monitor and personal cascade impactor in order to ensure size-segregated sampling of air particulate matter (in the range of the fo...
